What sets your fee

We look at your records before quoting, so the fee matches the work. These are the things that move it:

FactorWhy it matters
Monthly transactionsEach bank and card line is coded and reconciled. More lines, more work.
Bank and card accountsEvery account is reconciled to its statement every month.
Employees and contractorsPayroll, quarterly Form 941, year-end W-2s and 1099s.
Texas sales taxMonthly, quarterly or yearly returns to the Comptroller, depending on your filing frequency.
Entity typeA Schedule C, a partnership return and an S corporation return are different amounts of work.
State of your recordsMonths that were never reconciled are caught up first, at a separate fixed fee.

Priced separately

  • Catch-up bookkeeping for past months or years
  • Payroll processing
  • Tax planning and S corporation election analysis
  • Responding to IRS or Texas Comptroller notices
  • Amended returns

The engagement letter

Before we start, you get an engagement letter that says what we will do, what you will send us, and the fee. If your business changes — new employees, a new state, a new entity — we agree the new fee with you before the work changes.

Do you charge by the hour?

No. Bookkeeping is a fixed monthly fee and each tax return has a written quote. If something outside the agreed scope comes up, we tell you the price before doing it.

Is the first conversation free?

Yes. The introduction is free and without obligation. You get a written quote afterwards.

Why isn't there one price for business bookkeeping?

Two businesses with the same revenue can have ten or a thousand transactions a month. We look at your records first so the fee fits your business.
